Guest Speaker: Frank Babinec, City Manager of Coral Springs
Frank Babinec was selected by the Coral Springs City Commission to serve as City Manager effective December 21, 2019. Prior to serving at City Manager, Babinec served as the Chief of the Coral Springs – Parkland Fire Department in February of 2014. The department is comprised of approximately 400 members serving two cities.
A native Floridian, and a resident of Coral Springs since 1991, Chief Babinec joined the department in 1993 as a volunteer firefighter and was hired full-time in 2000 as the training officer. He spent seven years as an Assistant Chief (shift commander) and an additional seven years as the Deputy Chief of Operations, dedicating over 24 years of service to the communities of Coral Springs and Parkland. Babinec holds a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership and an MBA in Public Administration.
During his career, Babinec created and implemented a Community Paramedic Program and ensured the department achieved ISO Class 1 certification. In June 2018, Babinec was named Fire Chief of the Year for 2018 by the Southeast Association of Fire Chiefs (SEAFC) during their 90th Annual Leadership Conference. The SEAFC region represents Fire Chiefs from the states of: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In December 2019, Babinec received an Emmy Award for a film that documented cancer-related illness and subsequent changes for the fire service.
As City Manager, Babinec plans to develop comprehensive strategies that put our City on the right path towards innovation, business expansion, and enhanced public safety. Working with the Economic Development Office, Babinec’s goal is to help attract, retain and improve business.
